Unfolding Projects:
While we are waiting

Unfolding Projects: While We Are Waiting is a collective art project between Afghanistan and Australia, prompted by women’s experiences in Afghanistan since the Taliban takeover in 2021.

My artbook responds to the words of Diyana. In heartwrenching prose, she writes of the pain of waiting for better circumstances, and the consolation of hope for a better life. I drew inspiration from her words, in any shape or colour we were compelled to remain, using the imagery of epicormic shoots on Eucalyptus trees that spring forth after a bushfire has ravaged. The book is interactive, allowing the reader to superimpose the coloured regrowth over a seemingly destitute landscape.
